FIAC’s 40th anniversary will be the occasion to discover a profusion of the artistic and cultural events in Paris and elsewhere in France. For the first time since the 2012 reopening, the Palais de Tokyo devotes all 22,000m2 of its exhibition spaces to a single artist: a carte blanche to Philippe Parreno. The Centre Pompidou pays tribute to Roy Lichtenstein, stages Pierre Huyghe’s first retrospective exhibition, shows Modernités plurielles, a new hanging of its permanent collection, and presents the winners of the 2012 Marcel Duchamp Prize, Dewar & Gicquel. The exhibition organized by the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris provides an opportunity to rediscover the remarkable work of Serge Poliakoff. The museum likewise hosts the first Parisian exhibition of the Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi. Inside the Louvre pyramid, Loris Gréaud presents a monumental modular sculpture made from black stone, a synthesis of his work to date. Following the opening of the Louvre-Lens in December 2012, the Museum features acquisitions for the Louvre Abu Dhabi. A retrospective exhibition of Matthew Barney is scheduled at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (National Library).

The Jeu de Paume presents the great photographer of the early 20th century, Erwin Blumenfeld, together with contemporary artist Natacha Nisic. The Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art unveils a personal exhibition of the australian sculptor Ron Mueck. Faithful to its mission, the maison rouge-Foundation Antoine de Galbert highlights the vision of a private collector: the Australian, David Walsh. Outside of Paris, the Centre Pompidou-Metz stages the first exhibition in France of Hans Richter. The 12th Biennial of Lyon, curated by Gunnar B. Kvaran will be on view in the city as from September.
